In Gobernador Gregores, Santa Cruz, Eric Agustín and Mónica Reinsch are pioneering a novel approach to livestock management. They operate a 33,000-hectare estate focused on the sustainable harvesting of guanaco fiber. Traditionally viewed as competition for sheep farming in the region, they are demonstrating the guanaco's potential as a valuable resource. The couple skillfully manages and gently domesticates the guanacos to obtain their highly prized fiber. This fiber is then exported to Italy, capitalizing on its quality and demand in international markets. They believe this method represents a revolutionary shift in how producers in Santa Cruz perceive and utilize guanacos, fostering a more harmonious and profitable coexistence with the native animal.
