A fire destroyed seven caravans at ‘t Landje, a caravan park in Amsterdam’s Westelijk Havengebied, early this morning. Thick smoke was visible for miles as the fire rapidly spread through the park. Approximately forty residents, known as “stadsnomaden” (city nomads), live on the site with municipal permission in caravans, trailers, and self-built homes. The area was successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Authorities are currently seeking temporary accommodation for those displaced by the fire. Firefighters anticipate several more hours of work to fully extinguish the blaze, using a crane to separate the debris. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
