An American photojournalist with The Washington Post, Heidi Levine, was attacked by Israeli settlers while documenting violence against Palestinian olive farmers in the occupied West Bank near the Palestinian villages of Abu Falah and Turmus Ayya. The incident occurred on Friday, resulting in injuries to her leg and hand, and required hospitalization in Ramallah. Levine stated that over 50 masked settlers wielding sticks ambushed her despite wearing clearly marked press attire, including a flak jacket with “Press” displayed prominently. This attack follows a similar incident ten days prior, where an AFP photographer was also injured while covering the West Bank olive harvest. The US embassy in Jerusalem acknowledged the attack but declined further comment citing privacy laws, reaffirming their commitment to protecting American citizens. The Israeli military deployed troops to the area following reports of a violent confrontation and stated it would investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, condemning violence against civilians.
