Algeria has moved forward with its ambitious high-speed rail project connecting Algiers to Tamanrasset, a key city in the south. A recent executive decree declared two segments – El Ménéa to In Salah (410 km) and In Salah to Tamanrasset (676 km) – as being of public utility. This covers a total of 1,086 km of track, representing significant progress toward completing the line. The project aims to allow for speeds of up to 220 km/h. The announcement was published in the official state gazette on Thursday. This development signifies a major step in modernizing Algeria’s rail network and improving transportation links within the country, furthering economic development in the region.
