A Texas court has significantly reduced the damages Alex Jones was ordered to pay to families of victims from the Sandy Hook school shooting. Jones was initially found liable for $965 million in 2022 after repeatedly claiming the massacre was a hoax on his Infowars platform. The reduction affects two Texas families who were originally awarded $50 million each. The court has now lowered the compensation to $750,000 per plaintiff, bringing the total reduction to $935 million. This decision comes after years of Jones disseminating false and harmful conspiracy theories about the tragedy. The families sued Jones for defamation, infliction of emotional distress, and other claims. While still a substantial amount, the lowered damages represent a reversal from the original, landmark judgement.
