The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has announced a phased approach to elections, prioritizing security in the region. Polling in four constituencies across Bagh and Haveli districts will proceed on Monday, with voting open to 460,371 registered voters. The Commission anticipates holding elections in the remaining seven constituencies of Poonch division by August 20-21, pending a formal announcement within the next week. This delay allows candidates in Poonch and Sudhnoti districts adequate campaigning time. The Poonch division encompasses 11 constituencies and over 1.1 million registered voters. Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, the Chief Election Commissioner, emphasized the importance of voting as both a democratic right and religious duty. Security personnel and polling materials are being deployed under army supervision, and there are no legal barriers to the swearing-in of elected candidates.
