Air France-KLM has reported a profit of €190 million for the last quarter, a significant improvement from the €459 million loss recorded during the same period last year. Despite a 50% drop in Air France’s profits attributed to soaring kerosene prices – up 50% due to the Middle East conflict – KLM experienced increased profits. This is largely due to a shift in travel patterns; passengers are now opting for direct KLM flights to Asia, avoiding transit routes through the unstable Middle East. Overall customer numbers increased by almost 4%, despite passing increased fuel costs onto passengers. The company emphasizes the need for continued strong profits, aiming for at least 8% annually, to fund its fleet's sustainability upgrades. The high cost of kerosene is expected to remain a challenge in the coming periods.
