A new Los Angeles museum, Dataland, has launched with “Machine Dreams: Rainforest,” an AI-powered exhibit simulating the Amazon rainforest. The installation uses 10 million lines of code and 1.5 billion pixels to create an immersive experience of sights, sounds, and smells. Visitors’ physiological data – movements, heartbeats, skin temperature – collected via wrist-worn sensors and scent diffusers, will dynamically shape the AI’s rendering of the rainforest. Creator Refik Anadol aims to offer a sustainable alternative to physically visiting the Amazon, fostering connection with nature through technology. The exhibit intends to evolve continuously based on visitor interaction and collected data. Dataland represents a novel approach to museum experiences, leveraging artificial intelligence and biometric feedback for artistic expression.
