Astou Pierre has died following an acid attack in June, and her former partner, Badara Gaye, has been identified as the prime suspect. Witnesses state Gaye allegedly threw acid at Pierre at her workplace, inflicting severe injuries after their separation. Pierre worked as a cashier at a local business and was attacked while on duty in Amitié 3, near her home in Liberté 4. After more than three months in hospital, including time in intensive care, she succumbed to her injuries and was buried at the cemetery of Yoff. Gaye reportedly fled the country and is believed to be in Morocco, though authorities have not yet officially confirmed his identity as a suspect. The death has caused grief in the Sicap area, where Pierre was known for her community involvement, particularly with the Navétanes.
