A former frozen storage warehouse in Pohang, South Korea, has been repurposed into a cultural space, addressing the growing issue of vacant properties nationwide. Declining populations and internal migration are contributing to an increase in abandoned buildings across the country, posing aesthetic and safety concerns. This project offers a solution by transforming a derelict structure into a community asset. The warehouse, once used for ice production, has been renovated to host various cultural events and activities. The revitalization initiative aims to combat urban decay and provide a new function for unused spaces. This successful transformation serves as a potential model for addressing the increasing number of vacant buildings in South Korea and beyond, demonstrating innovative approaches to urban regeneration. The project highlights a shift towards creative reuse and community-focused development.
