Dutch highway authority Rijkswaterstaat will begin removing obstructing tree branches along the A50 between Apeldoorn and Arnhem earlier than initially projected. The work, starting next week, aims to clear the view of safety cameras which have been obscured, causing significant rush-hour congestion. The A50’s rush-hour lane and associated breakdown bays were closed on August 10th due to the obstruction. Previously, Rijkswaterstaat estimated a two-week delay before work could commence, but has now prioritized the project and expedited procedures. Despite the accelerated timeline, all safety and environmental regulations will still be followed, including an ecological assessment. The work is expected to take multiple nights, with the first branches being removed Monday night. Officials hope to reopen the rush-hour lane later next week once the pruning is complete.
