Dale Sanders, a 91-year-old American, has become the oldest person to hike the entire 3,530-kilometer Appalachian Trail, reaching Mount Katahdin in Maine. The journey, which began in September of last year, was fraught with challenges, including 71 falls, seven of which were severe. Despite injuries such as scrapes and a temporarily paralyzed arm that raised concerns of a stroke, Sanders persevered with remarkable determination. This isn't Sanders' first record on the trail; he previously held the title at age 82 in 2017, before a friend surpassed him. Motivated to reclaim the record, he embarked on this new attempt, finding it considerably more difficult than his previous hike. Sanders, nicknamed “Grey Beard,” acknowledged the significant difference between hiking the trail in his 90s versus his 80s. His achievement highlights exceptional physical and mental fortitude.
